18 degrees last night! To me, that’s cold! Last year at this time I was on a delivery to Tortola, BVI and I was able to skip most of this cold stuff. I spent 30 days working in the tropics and I haven’t gotten it out of my system. This year however, I am in New Bern, NC on the coldest night of the winter, so far, and we are relatively comfortable. We use a little ceramic heater that does a surprisingly good job of heating the boat and a propane infrared heater when we anchor out. We only anchor out if it’s warmer than about 45 degrees or so. We are still tracking down little cold drafts here and there and have managed to get most of them under control. The problem we are having though, is now that we’ve got the boat warm, we’re getting condensation forming on the inside hull and soaking bed linens and anything touching the hull. I am exploring different ways of installing insulation and researching different types of insulation to use. Making some progress but I’m convinced the only way to fix it properly is to go south, preferably back to 18 degrees latitude where it’s warm!
